How the Clinical Care Platform aims to change the future of Continuing Professional Development.
We are celebrating 1 year since the launch of the Clinical Care Platform, which started with the mission to make Continuing Medical Education (CME) easily accessible to all healthcare professionals. The most significant barrier facing South African Healthcare practitioners pursuing Continuous Professional Development (CPD) maintenance is the cost and location of attending CPD activities which mostly affects healthcare workers working in rural areas (1). Solving this problem underpins the existence and mission of the Clinical Care Platform. Let's look at the platform's achievements, what sets us apart and what we envision for the future of CME.
Our Achievements
Clinical Care Platform plans to establish itself as a leading provider of on-demand and virtual live CPD opportunities in South Africa, Africa and and eventually in the World. Our greatest achievement was the launch of our ever-expanding clinical library "ClinLib" which has over 70 CPD courses. Our subscribers enjoy open access to these courses and continue to give positive feedback about their experience, the average net promoter score across our courses and live events is 95/100 and the platform has a 4.9-star rating on google reviews.
As of the end of July 2022, the platform had issued more than 10,000 verifiable CPD certifications directly to healthcare professionals and logged with relevant professional councils like the HPCSA. A significant part of our success is due to the support and dedication of our scientific advisors, Dr Billy Magagula a specialist Obstetrician and Gynaecologist, Dr Thekganang Machete-Nzimande, a specialist General Surgeon and Dr Giyani Patrick Shibambu , a specialist Paediatrician. The scientific advisors set the agenda for educational programs, lead the selection of instructors, moderate live session and ensure that all educational materials are relevant and evidence based.
What Sets Us Apart?
We offer excellent educational opportunities at an affordable price and some training initiatives are sponsored through partnerships with institutions such as; AstraZeneca, Abbvie, Hetero, Bayer and local private hospitals. Apart from all our achievements, what distinguishes us from other platforms is that we are a proudly South African institution, our topics are based on the disease burden with no influence from sponsors and most of our employees are women reflecting our dedication to the empowerment and inclusivity of all healthcare workers.
Our Potential
The backbone of the Clinical Care Platform is our community of healthcare professionals. After reaching our one-year milestone, we plan on establishing a solid community where healthcare professionals can support each other. We are making multiple platforms available for peer assistance, discussions, contact seminars where healthcare professionals can meet face-to-face and an outreach program to rural hospitals. We are continuously increasing the number of educational channels that are currently available to make CPDs accessible and convenient. Lookout for upcoming lunchtime micro-educational events.
